Is it the journey to self-improvement or the culture that you’re after?
Do you genuinely want to grow or are you seeking a social master?
Are you on the winds of change or just riding high on endorphins?
Are you aiming for personal alteration or is it just your body you are morphing?
There is an industry of resurrection, of the human body,
And it comes in the form of worship of muscles, oiled and glossy.
The work that’s done on the inside, is only of physical consequence,
As the purging and the dieting is rounded off, by amino supplements.
The only changes that count, are those physically seen,
Any difference to the spirit, is missed by the social’s stream.
It is not really encouraged, the philosophy is ‘you do you’.
Which leaves little room for growth of the spirit or mind that it is home to.
For you, is all that is seen, in the mirrors and on the screen.
What lies between is of no importance or consequence to this scene.
“Yes, I’m working hard, sorting out all my shit.”
Repeating the same exercises until I’m buff and fit.
Oh yes, I’m growing now, I’m focused on myself.
(And all those who are admiring, my new strength and stealth.)
But I don’t need to master, my internal self-speak.
As long as it pushes me on, I will reach my peak.”
That is all there is to this, there really isn’t much more.
How far you can pedal a bike or hold large weights off the floor.
“I don’t work on anything, other than my winning attitude,
Cause if you’re not a winner you’re the loser - and that’s not me dude!”
This magical transformation that has taken place
Is no more metamorphic than a caterpillar uncased.
Nothing about the essence of who you are is re-created by the fad,
It’s the same view of the world, from eyes that are still glazed and sad.
The promise of a new and improved you, only refers to the shell,
You still can’t bare to be alone with yourself, so all is not really well.
The physical improvements to your health are credits hard won,
But the lack of attention to your spirit means the transformation is only part done.
If you put half as much effort, into healing all your scars,
You would be as strong as Zeus and shine like the brightest stars.
Patching up the outside, overhauling the chassis,
Doesn’t fix the electrics or the fuel tanks capacity.
You can only journey as far as the fuel has the ability to take you,
And functionality requires, all systems to co-ordinate through the CPU.
So, when some systems are neglected, the journey may not go to plan,
You might look like the perfect ride, but you’ll break down in a jam.
